I was making decent money working in a white collar job, had my own office and even a secretary but my ability to earn more income was the issue. My pay had topped out and every day more people were getting laid off and their work load was being dumped on me.

I had no choice. It was do what I was told or I would be fired. There was always the threat of "well if you don't want to do the extra work I (the boss) just dumped on you, there is always someone standing in line for your job!"

Needless to say, I hated my life.

In mid-life I felt I was going no where but down. Then I got laid off... and found out...

I was overqualified for every job I applied for...

This was a crushing blow to me, my wife, and kids. I did not know what to do or where to turn. I was an older, middle aged worker and the massive unemployment figures as well as my age were against me. It used to be that experience was a sure bet on getting a job, now I found out my middle age and vast experience made me virtually unemployable.

I was simply over qualified for anything I applied for!

I was so depressed I did not know what I was going to do. I went to a career counselor who was not much help either. I felt shell shocked and as the weeks went into months and I still did not get a job I fell deeper and deeper into debt.

It was embarrassing. I was using credit cards to pay for everything. We had cut down our expenses to the bare bones as soon as I got laid off but I had to buy food, pay the mortgage and other necessities.

All this time when I was not hunting for work (this got so depressing over time I was only half-heartedly looking) I was scouring the Internet looking for a way to make money, ANY money. I bought every darn guru's crap that promised a big online income, and all I did was run up even more credit card debt.

One day I got a lucky break...
 

I went in to a job interview for a job I really did not want but felt that I had to try to get a job, any job was better than none. I needed the money desperately. My family was hurting and I had nothing to lose.

The guy who was interviewing me said, "Your credentials are exceptional, with your business experience you should be able to build your own business easily. Why don't you build your own? You might be successful if you apply what you know." He said he was sorry he couldn't hire me since I was over qualified and they were looking for someone with different experience. He did say he thought I could build my own online business if I just set my mind to it.

I thought about that... Why couldn't I build my own business?

I had built other things from scratch, how could this be so hard? I knew how to make a plan and I knew I had a ton of information from all the guru products I had bought. There had to be some nuggets of real value in them: if I could just take the nuggets and put them all together. So that is what I did.

Believe me it wasn't easy. I worked all day and half into the night testing and repeating my tests, working tirelessly for months building my system. My wife thought I was nuts.
